Problem:
The ferrous oxide content of aplite rock remained too high after removal of denser minerals from the feldspar. Glass grades of feldspar typically contain less than 0.1% ferrous oxide.
Solution:
M&T Chemicals, Inc. (now
U.S. Silica), in Montpelier, VA, USA installed three Eriez Induced Magnetic Roll Separators*. Glass grades of feldspar were achieved at the desired production rate of 15 TPH and maintenance was significantly reduced.
*Alternative equipment includes Rare Earth Roll Separators.
